Business

As of the 1st of November 2021, the ATO and ASIC has introduced new identification rules for directors. Directors will need to apply for their director ID. All directors will need to register for a director ID. Once you apply and receive your director ID you will not need to do so again regardless if you set-up another entity. In order to apply for a director ID you will first need to set-up your MyGovID, If you already have access to the business portal you should’ve already set this up.

For more information on how to set-up a MyGovID please see How to set up | myGovID

Once you have your MyGovID you can apply for your director ID at Apply for your director ID | Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS)

Unfortunately, if you are having troubles setting up your director ID, tax, BAS and ASIC agents cannot apply for one on your behalf. They can however provide advice regarding the requirements as to whether you need to set on up and by when

When you need to apply for a director ID, depends on when you became a director.

If you became a director from the 1st of November 2021 to the 4th of April 2022 you must apply for a director ID within 28 days of being appointed.

If you become a director from the 5th of April 2022 onwards you will need to apply for director ID before being appointed

For directors who were appointed before the 1st of November 2021 you have until 30th of November 2022 to apply for your director ID.
